Terrorists appear to be continuing their vigorous actions in Cabo Delgado province. This contradicts the announcement by the former President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, on December 15, 2024, about the abandonment of the extremists in the province.
Nyusi allegedly assured that the actions of the Defense and Security Forces had dismantled the terrorists and led them to leave the territory. However, on December 20, an attack was reported on the N380 National Road, the main road linking the north of the province to the rest of the region.
"Insurgents attacked a truck carrying rice, setting it on fire and destroying the cargo. In addition, the terrorists also burned another truck that was being used to transport essential goods for the local population," writes the CDD.
For the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD), the attack proved that the challenge against terrorism continues in Mozambique. The attack, according to the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), demolishes Nyusi's speech and demonstrates the hegemony of terrorists in some regions of Cabo Delgado.
"The situation remains far from stable... Moreover, the attack also highlights a failure in the security infrastructure. The continuation of attacks on a vital road such as the N380 suggests that the SDF still does not have effective control of strategic areas, allowing insurgents to move freely and cause significant damage to the province's logistics and economy," the report said.
