Lawyer Elvino Dias, legal advisor to Venâncio Mondlane and CAD/PODEMOS, was murdered at point-blank range this morning by unknown assailants on a public road.

Elvino Dias was riddled with bullets on Avenida Joaquim Chissano, in the Primavera neighborhood of Malhangalene, on the outskirts of Maputo. Along with Elvino Dias, Paulo Guambe, the national representative of PODEMOS in these elections, was also killed.

Elvino Dias was accompanied by another passenger, in this case a woman, who, according to reports, was only injured and was taken to a hospital, but her state of health is not yet known.

According to reports, Elvino Dias was on his way home after a stop to socialize at Malhangalene's "Pulmão".

A publication by Canal Moz states that Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe were documenting the electoral fraud and were leading the team working on the appeal to the Constitutional Council.

In the local elections, Elvino Dias was instrumental in proving that Venâncio Mondlane won the elections in Maputo. It was he who went around to all the courts in the municipal districts with real notices and embarrassed several judges. Some judges annulled the results, but they were later validated by the Constitutional Council.

Elvino Dias had already told people close to him and even posted on Facebook that there was a "regime" plan to assassinate him and Venâncio Mondlane. Venâncio Mondlane, the presidential candidate who is contesting the false election results, will make his statement this morning.
