On two occasions, the press officer of the Presidency of the Republic (PR), Arsénio Henriques, had his professionalism questioned in public by the President of the Republic (PR), Filipe Nyusi.
On the first occasion, while the PR was getting ready to address an audience and the nation, on October 4, "Peace Day", already on the speech platform (podium or pulpit), he quietly reprimanded the attaché and the Aide-de-Camp (AdC/bodyguard). The microphone was on and Filipe Nyusi could be heard saying "You can take this off, you can take this off. You never do your job, you know? You never do your job"!
The second episode took place this week, during a virtual meeting between the PR and Mozambican ambassadors in the diaspora. The event was broadcast live on television. At one point, Nyusi turned to the press officer and said "Arsénio, let me work...".
For social and human rights activist Adriano Nuvunga, Filipe Nyusi's attitude was not the best.
"It doesn't look good when the older ones treat the younger ones like this," he said, after praising the professionalism of Arsénio Henriques, an attaché since Nyusi's first term.
Nuvunga suggested that the PR send the attaché for training abroad, "to become a better professional".
"This is not the country we want, where the big bosses humiliate their closest collaborators in public like this. That's how problems start," he said.
