Waking up, leaving home and going to study at Acipol is no longer good enough. Now it is exclusive to agents

The commander-general of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) said, this Thursday in Maputo, that as of 2023 only officers of the corporation will be able to attend classes at the Academy of Police Sciences (Acipol).

One of the requirements revealed by Bernardino Rafael is five or three years of work experience as a member of the PRM, after they have already gone through the basic training at the Matalane School or officers out of the Sergeants School.

The general concept of ACIPOL is to train policemen, and the PRM member, after swearing to the flag in Matalane, is entitled to enter and continue his studies.

Until this year, Acipol received civilians, who, however, in the middle of the course had to attend the Matalane Practical School in order to have the status and then return to the academy to complete the course, a process that the commander-general considers "time consuming".

"We are 'jamming' [skipping] some steps here," said Bernardino Rafael, speaking to journalists, stressing that "leaving home and going to the academy, is not being a policeman. The only school that assigns the status is Matalane."

According to the police, 100 officers will be admitted to Acipol this year, out of the 150 contemplated, at least until exclusive police training begins at the institution.

"At the higher level we are going to start with getting more PRM members into ACIPOL, with 100, and so we will be complying with a presidential matrix decision that tells us that that academy is police. So we will gradually stop receiving students who are not police officers," he said.
