At least 20 people have died in a week on Mozambican roads, victims of 17 traffic accidents, including five crashes and four hit-and-runs.
According to a AIMThe accidents, which also caused serious injuries to 15 citizens and 27 minor injuries, took place between October 5 and 11. Extensive material damage was also recorded as a result of the accidents.
The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) points to excessive speed as the main cause of accidents in the country.
With regard to crime, 69 offenses were recorded in the period in question, all of which were cleared up.
Crimes against people and property dominated the criminal panorama in the country, with 15 and 37 cases respectively.
According to the PRM General Command, during the period in question, the corporation inspected 60,148 vehicles, 45 of which were seized for various irregularities.
During the same period, the police confiscated 44 license books and 429 driving licenses and imposed 2,659 fines for various offenses.
At least eight individuals were arrested for illegal driving, a situation that also occurred with four drivers accused of active corruption.
