A head-on collision between vehicles killed about 27 people on National Road number 1 (EN1), in the district of Mopeia, in the province of Zambezia, in central Mozambique, last Saturday.

The accident involved a goods truck and a passenger bus on the road that connects Northern and Southern Mozambique.

Our sources say that the driver of the truck was accompanied by six other people and lost control of the vehicle and it collided with the passenger semi-bus, in which there were 25 people.

It is worth noting that the data regarding deaths differs among the media, some indicating 22, 26, and 27.

Accounts made by "O País" reveal that, in only seven months, 97 people died in traffic accidents on National Road Number 1 alone.
