Teachers at the Portuguese School of Mozambique (EPM) in Maputo warned today that the strikes they began today will continue indefinitely if the Portuguese government does not translate their demands into a decree-law.
According to the representative of the 25 or so teachers on strike at the EPM - which has around 150 teachers - the issue of pay equity and other demands must be resolved by the Portuguese ministries of Education, Public Administration and Finance.
The expectation is that it will be resolved before the current Executive leaves office.
According to Antero Ribeiro, the strike is taking place at the same time as and in coordination with Portuguese schools abroad, whose operation will be affected, but this is not what the teachers want.
