The main opponent of the Frelimo political regime, Venâncio Mondlane, is in the middle of a conspiracy to lead him to self-surrender and consequently resign from the 2029 electoral race.

According to a reading in the weekly Mozambique ChannelWednesday edition (19), the cases against people close to Mondlane, a police action against civiliansare some of the arguments to get Mondlane to back down.

The newspaper refers, for example, to the summons to Dinis Tivanethe former presidential candidate's communications advisor, who is due to make a statement to the Central Office for Combating Organized and Transnational Crime.

However, the highlight is Gloria Nobre ChireVenâncio Mondlane's 59-year-old financial coordinator, a retired accountant from a commercial bank in the square. She was arrested in an unorthodox manner on Wednesday (14), and her prison has been legalized two days after the event - after going through psychological tortureAccording to the Center for Democracy and Human Rights, which is following the case.

According to the weekly, Glória Nobre Chire is accused of three crimes, namely': conspiracy against (the security of) (the) state, with a sentence of between eight and 12 years; violent alteration of the rule of law, with prison sentences of between 12 and 16 years; and incitement to collective disobedience, with sentences of between two and eight years.

During her interrogation, at the Criminal Investigation Section of the Maputo City Judicial Court, her defense lawyers tried to show that the crimes Glória Nobre is accused of are not her responsibility because of the job she was hired to do. "But the judge already had the booklet to send her to prison and dismissed all the arguments."

As a reminder, Venâncio Mondlane was heard by the Attorney General's Office on Tuesday (11) during almost ten hours of questioning. The prosecutor was unable to clarify the crimes of which he is accused or their type, but he was given a term of identity and residence.

Including kidnappings and murders, these processes are "ways that the regime has found to weaken and put pressure on Venancio Mondlane," notes the weekly.

 On the day that his financial coordinator was arrested, Mondlane announced that this week he would be submitting the terms for registering his new party.
