The Attorney General of the Republic, Américo Letela, today called for innovative responses to combat the various types of crime in the country, with a focus on organized and transnational crime, which are increasingly putting the capacity of the justice system to the test.
"The sophistication of this type of crime, with its transnational characteristics, imposes on the Public Prosecutor's Office the constant need to strengthen its response capacity in order to deal effectively with a phenomenon that crosses borders and challenges traditional law enforcement models," said Letela.
The Prosecutor was speaking after swearing in the Director of the Central Office for Combating Organized and Transnational Crime, the Deputy Director of the Central Office for Combating Corruption, the Chief Provincial Prosecutors of Inhambane and Manica and the Director of the Tete Provincial Office for Combating Corruption.
According to the Attorney General, fighting corruption is one of the priorities for ensuring sustainable development, social equity and trust in public institutions.
Among other things, "those in office have a clear mission to ensure that corruption cases are properly investigated and prosecuted, without any external influence or personal interests" while, in the exercise of their duties, "they must strive for ethical integrity, transparency and probity".
