Cabo Delgado: Amnistia Internacional exige à PGR investigação urgente sobre desaparecimento de Arlindo Chissale

Amnesty International (AI) is demanding an urgent investigation by the Attorney General's Office (PGR) into the disappearance of journalist Arlindo Chissale, who has been missing since January.

In a letter dated March 17, 2025, addressed to the PGR, Américo Letela, AI demands that the actions to unravel the case be clear, transparent and impartial, as well as that their fate and whereabouts be revealed.

"All those suspected of being responsible must be brought to justice in fair trials. The authorities must follow up on all existing leads to clarify publicly where Arlindo Chissale is and how and why he was forced to disappear," it reads.

In the same document, AI criticizes the fact that despite the family and witnesses having filed the complaint with the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Cabo Delgado, there has been no clarification as to whether an investigation has begun or is continuing.

He also regrets the apparent lack of coordination between the PRM and the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC), since the police said that the case had been referred to SERNIC, but the latter, through its spokesperson, declined to receive any letter on the matter.
