Venâncio Mondlane accuses PGR of bias

Venâncio Mondlane acusa a PGR de parcialidade

Politician and former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane yesterday accused the Attorney General's Office (PGR) of acting with partiality, by being quick to act against him and not in relation to the complaints submitted to the PGR.

"We have the case of 400 people murdered between October and December, and let's be honest, these are people who were murdered by the Mozambican defense forces, specifically by the Rapid Intervention Police, UIR," the politician told reporters at Maputo airport yesterday.

"As of today, there is no case against the police... Bernardino Rafael was never called to make a statement, but he had 400 people murdered," said Mondlane.

Asked about the summons to make a statement to the PGR on Tuesday, Mondlane said he was ready, stating that the aim of these proceedings is to "intimidate, terrorize and frighten".

Today's hearing takes place as part of a "criminal case filed last year" - against former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, at the Public Prosecutor's Office in Maputo.
