Flights scheduled for northern Mozambique have been canceled due to the approach of Cyclone Jude, according to Mozambique Airlines (LAM).

The tropical storm that is now in the Mozambique Channel is expected to enter the mainland from the Mossuril district in Nampula this Monday. LAM has therefore canceled flights to the cities of Nampula, Nacala, in Nampula province, and Pemba, in Cabo Delgado province.

In a statement, the flag carrier said it was a "safety measure" because tropical storm Jude "is already battering the northern part of the country".

However, the company has said that flights will be re-established when the weather situation improves.

The weather phenomenon is expected to affect the provinces of Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Zambézia. More than 340,000 people.
