The National Meteorological Institute (INAM) warns of a tropical cyclone approaching the Mozambican coast from this Sunday, which could affect the weather in three of the country's provinces.
According to a statement released yesterday by INAM, the low atmospheric pressure system could affect the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Zambézia from tomorrow, affecting the weather and maritime navigation. The same provinces have already been affected by two cyclones (Chido and Dikeledi) in the current rainy season, in December and January.
"Projections indicate that the system could enter the Mozambique channel on March 8 (today), 2025, affecting maritime navigation with stormy winds," reads the INAM statement.
INAM said that it is continuing to monitor the evolution of the system and calls on the population to continue to follow the information released by the competent authorities.
Mozambique is considered one of the most severely affected by global climate change, facing cyclical floods and tropical cyclones during the rainy season, but also prolonged periods of severe drought.
