Ossufo Momade, the leader of the largest opposition party and the third largest in parliament, Renamo, is out of the country to treat problems with his cardiovascular health, namely his arteries and heart.
According to the newspaper EvidenceAccording to the article in today's edition, these were the reasons for the postponement of the party's National Council. This contradicts the version given to MZNews by Renamo spokesman Marcial Macome.
The weekly reports that Momade's cardiovascular health has worsened steadily since the local elections on October 11, 2023. But also "a lot because of the pressure of work and betrayals he has been suffering from members of his party, some of whom have already defected".
"Momade suffers from chronic blood pressure which, in recent years, has caused him frequent heart problems, often causing him to have swollen feet, a condition described in medical terminology as worsening heart failure. This has been the main reason for his cyclical disappearances from the political sphere from time to time since 2023, a fact that has led to growing discontent among his members and the degradation of his image, often being associated with cowardice for not appearing at moments considered crucial," writes the newspaper.
In addition to Renamo's defeat in the general elections on October 9, 2024, Momade seems to be fighting internal battles related to tribal issues, with opponents from the center and south plotting to usurp power from him.
