Ismael Mussá, an academic and political analyst, argues in favor of abolishing the voter registration process, considering it unnecessary "when done badly" and affecting representation in parliament.
"We should carry out a thorough reform of the entire system, starting by doing away with voter registration. This is an unnecessary process when done badly, because it profoundly affects the question of representativeness, since the question of representativeness in parliament is calculated on the basis of data from this process," he explained.
He presented his thoughts recently in Maputo during a round table on the political agenda for 2025 and the role of political actors in the country's current situation.
The political parties have been meeting with the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, to suggest reforms to the electoral law. They have already agreed to sign the terms of reference, Daniel Chapo announced yesterday.
However, Ismael is of the opinion that the new electoral package must ensure that there are no vices during the election and results presentation processes.
He looks ahead to the adoption of the proposal, submitted to Parliament five years ago, which aims to introduce the Citizen's Card. The single number document envisages the elimination of the Identity Card (BI), Unique Tax Identification Number (NUIT), Voter Card, among others.
"The idea is to have everything compacted in order to do away with the electoral register," he said, quoted by the News.
On the other hand, he defended the "audacity" of moving towards electronic voting, which will initially be a mixed process, prioritizing the provincial capitals.
