Cabo Delgado: Mocimboa da Praia in panic after terrorist movement

Cabo Delgado: Mocimboa da Praia em pânico após movimento de terroristas

Residents of the district of Mocímboa da Praia, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, are facing moments of panic, following the movement of Islamic terrorists in the region.

The climate of fear and tension arose after residents of the Milamba neighborhood, in the town of Mocímboa da Praia, found that, since last Monday, several streets have been blocked with heavy objects to prevent the free movement of people and their goods.

According to Letter from MozambiqueIt seems that the barricades were put up in that neighborhood on Monday night. In the past, many young people have left the area to join the terrorists.

The residents explain that what intrigues them is the fact that the situation is taking place in an area that is regularly patrolled by the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces (FDS).

The erection of barricades in Mocímboa da Praia and the movement of terrorist groups in the same neighborhood, which was where the first terrorist attacks took place in 2017, happened on the same day that the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, said at a rally in Pemba that the government is committed to fighting terrorism and also violent demonstrations, which "are no different from attacks perpetrated by terrorists".
