Train traffic on the Ressano Garcia line in Maputo province is interrupted following the derailment of a train in the Chinculo area on Sunday afternoon.

The information was shared by the Police Command of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Maputo province, according to "Noticias".

The source explained that the freight train was heading in the Ressano Garcia-Maputo direction, made up of 50 chrome wagons, six of which derailed, two overturned completely and four became disoriented.

According to the newspaper, the accident caused no human casualties, but resulted in the destruction of concrete sleepers, to an extent yet to be assessed, and wagons, blocking the line.

Following the incident, a police team was mobilized to maintain security, pending the arrival of technicians to ascertain the causes of the accident.

It should be noted that the Ressano Garcia line is important for the development of Mozambique and South Africa, as it provides a link with the Republic of South Africa, which is very important for the country's foreign trade.

The line is 88 kilometers long, from the Port of Maputo to Ressano Garcia. It has 11 stations, two halts and can run 12 trains a day in each direction. (News)
