Public debt grew 5% in the last quarter

Mozambique's public debt grew by 5% at the end of the third quarter of 2024, compared to the previous quarter, exceeding 16,730 million dollars.

A document released yesterday by the Ministry of Finance, and quoted by "O País", indicates that the volume of public debt grew by 50.840 million meticais in three months.

The document justifies this increase with "the increase in domestic debt", by 28.935 billion meticais, equivalent to 8% more, "mostly justified by the issue of short-term debt", through Treasury Bills.

By the end of September, the public debt issued domestically amounted to 396 056 million meticais, according to the bulletin.

The same document also states that: "contrary to the previous period, the external debt saw an increase of 3.4%, rising to 673 175 million meticais at the end of September.
