PODEMOS presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane revealed yesterday to MEPs that Europe is not paying enough attention to the post-election crisis in Mozambique..
"The European Union is hesitating a little," said Venâncio Mondlane, adding that Mozambicans are left to their own devices and that the situation is not receiving enough attention.
Meanwhile, in an interview with DWMEP Ana Vasconcelos Martins, from the Liberal Initiative, agreed with Venâncio Mondlane's statements, saying that she "would like to see greater coherence, given the way Europe deals with other issues".
"With regard to the contrast presented by Venâncio Mondlane, it is true that Venezuela is a very strong issue and we are very pleased that it has had the attention it has had from the European Union and in particular the European Parliament, but this is a situation in Mozambique that is escalating. Therefore, not giving the importance it gives to other cases is, in fact, a failure on the part of the European Union," he emphasized.
The MEP also said she was trying to understand the reason for this indifference. "Honestly, I'm also trying to understand. It also comes from those who may have a greater historical connection and can draw more attention to the situation. We will do our part, and it would be desirable if other Portuguese people did too, to draw attention to this situation," she added.
