Kenyan professor challenges Filipe Nyusi to listen to voices of reason to overcome electoral crisis

Professor queniano desafia Filipe Nyusi a ouvir vozes da razão para se ultrapassar a crise eleitoral

Professor and former director of Kenya's Anti-Corruption Commission, PLO Lumumba, challenges the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, to take on a fundamental role in promoting peace and reconciliation in Mozambique and to listen to the voices of reason in the face of the situation in the country since October..

In a letter addressed to the Mozambican Head of State and acknowledged by the PODEMOS presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, PLO Lumumba argues that President Nyusi, as the leader of the nation, must lead negotiations that can restore sanity and stability to the country.

"As the guardian of the nations history, you are uniquely placed to lead negotiations that can restore sanity, stability and dignity to our homeland. Your actions in this regard would resonate with the wisdom of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, who once observed that: 'a leader who, for others, does not leave a legacy for them to draw inspiration from and follow, can be considered a failed leader'," the letter reads.

Turning to history, the professor goes on to say that "those who overcome division and chaos become architects of harmony".

"Take advantage of this moment to affirm your legacy as a leader of courage and vision, leading Mozambique towards peace and reconciliation," he concluded.
