The independent presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, and "leader of the people", announced four days of national mourning, starting this Thursday (19.12) until Sunday (22) in honor of the more than 130 people killed during the demonstrations.
Venâncio Mondlane, who was speaking on Monday night in another live broadcast, said that this Thursday will be the start of the celebration of what he called the "heroes of modern democracy", from the murder of lawyer Elvino Dias to Mano Shottas, in Ressano Garcia.
During these four days of mourning, Mondlane said, activities will be able to take place normally, without street demonstrations or traffic being impeded.
"In these four days of mourning we will wear black for those whose tradition of mourning is to wear black, and we will wear white for those whose tradition of mourning is to wear white," said Mondlane.
Also during the four days of mourning, Mondlane called for a halt to activities for the singing of the national anthem, from 13h to 13h15. "Let's also pray for justice in Mozambique. Let's pray for the families who are wounded and who have lost people, everywhere," he said.
On Sunday, the last day of national mourning, Mondalne called for the "return" of whistles and vuvuzelas from 9pm until 10pm, because "on Monday, there will be the final verdict."
Turbo V8 in CC's hands on December 23rd
Venâncio Mondlane, leader of the demonstrations protesting the election results, called for a total and complete shutdown of public and private activities nationwide on Monday, December 23, the day the final election results will be announced.
"It's going to be a day when we won't have any work activity. We will stay in our homes to listen to the Constitutional Council's ruling. We set up our screens in our neighborhoods to listen to what the Constitutional Council is bringing as a verdict for Mozambicans."
Mondlane also said that the Turbo V8 will be announced by the words that will come out of the mouth of the president of the Constitutional Council, Professor Lúcia Ribeiro.
"What she will say through her mouth on December 23rd will determine whether the country moves towards peace or chaos. It will determine whether the country goes towards tranquillity or whether the country goes towards the abyss (...). We are now handing over responsibility for the Turbo V8 to be announced by Professor Lúcia Ribeiro on December 23 when the judgment is read out," said Mondlane.
