A machimbombo transporting staff from the Lalgy company was set on fire by demonstrators this morning in the Malhampsene neighborhood, in the city of Matola, Maputo province.
A company source told MZNews that the driver was forced to stop and the passengers (company workers) to leave the bus.
According to the same source, the protesters, "who usually hang out in the Malhampsene dump area and take tolls", used homemade bombs to set fire to the bus.
There are images circulating on social media showing a police officer from the Republic of Mozambique firing tear gas at the vehicle, leading us to believe that it was the police who caused the fire in the machimbombo.
However, a video shared by the company's source shows when the protesters started the fire in the vehicle.
"This bus used to transport workers who live in Maputo city and the municipality of Marracuene. So we are left without transportation," the source lamented.
So far, the company has only had one staff bus vandalized, with no human casualties.
