The Embassy of the United States of America (USA) in Mozambique condemned once again yesterday (27) the escalation of violence against civilians during the post-election period in the country.

In a statement released yesterday, the US government said that its condemnation also "included an incident that took place on November 27, in which a vehicle belonging to the Mozambican security forces sped towards a group of people and brutally ran over one person".

"We call on the Government of Mozambique to ensure that the role of the security forces to protect the Mozambican people is fulfilled and to carry out an investigation into this incident and other reports of disproportionate use of force, ensuring accountability in accordance with the law," he concluded.
