The meeting recently proposed by the President of the Republic to hold talks with the four presidential candidates could take place within a week, Filipe Nyusi said yesterday.
Speaking in Harare, Zimbabwe, on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), he said that the invitations were already being sent out.
"I don't know how they found my schedule, but the meeting should take place in a week. And the invitation, if it's today, has a date for sure. It's something that can be made public," he said.
The meeting aims to put an end to the current tense post-election politics in Mozambique.
"This intention is to normalize the situation, because now people are demonstrating and children are dying. It's very sad. Police who are being raped, their homes. People burning cars... And so, it's so that we can find a balance. I think my office should be sending out the invitations today," he said.
The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, expressed his openness to dialogue with the presidential candidates, Lutero Simango, Venâncio Mondlane, Ossufo Momade and Daniel Chapo, during the first and only communication to the nation on the post-election demonstrations, which today mark their first month without ceasing.
This will was presented to the SADC leaders, who called for peaceful solutions and respect for the institutions of justice in Mozambique.
