Protesters set fire to Frelimo committee headquarters in Nampula

Manifestantes incendeiam sede do comitê da Frelimo em Nampula

A group of individuals, allegedly members of the PODEMOS party, set fire on Thursday afternoon (07) to the headquarters of the 25 September zone committee in the Muhala Expansão neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Nampula..

According to a publication on the local portal IkweliAccording to local sources, the perpetrators came in on a seven-seater motorcycle, immediately set it on fire and fled.

The community leader of the Muhala Expansão neighborhood, Anastácio Alfredo, revealed that the atmosphere was calm, but suddenly he saw the Frelimo party's zone committee on fire.

"So far we don't really know the real cause of this fire, it's still premature. I was here and at the time it happened the situation was calm, we only saw the house on fire. The police have already been present and they have taken charge of investigating the case, of course it could be an act of bad faith, but we can't say anything unless we wait for the competent people to investigate," said the source.

According to the same publication, the fire happened at the same time as twelve (12) precariously built shacks on Avenida Eduardo Mondlane, in the Mavuco area, where traders lost large sums of money and various goods, which is why the community leader said he had no doubt that the demonstrators were responsible for the incident.
