Some citizens living in the city of Chimoio, Manica province, central Mozambique, on Thursday (24) burned tires on public roads and destroyed some public and private infrastructure in response to the invitation to demonstrations by the presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane.
This Thursday (24), the day the National Electoral Commission (CNE) declared Frelimo and its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, the winners of the VII general elections and the IV provincial assembly elections, some citizens took to the streets to protest the results.
According to a AIMThe violent demonstrations paralyzed commerce and other activities from midday, two hours before the announcement of the results, which have yet to be validated by the Constitutional Council (CC).
The violence began in the Francisco Manyanga neighborhood, specifically at the 38 Milímetros market, one of Chimoio's main shopping centers, where youths set fire to some stalls and burned tires.
Faced with the situation, the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) were called in to restore public order and security.
