The first secretary of the Frelimo party in Maputo city, António Niquice, said today that there was no reason for the opposition parties to contest the election results.
In this sense, he called on the population to wait for the official announcement of the results of the October 9 elections by the legal entities.
"We are of the opinion that illegal appeals should not be accepted. We want public order and tranquillity and for our people to continue to move around and work freely," he said.
But he also urged the institutions of law and order to take action on the matter.
Speaking to journalists, he was proud that the party's work had been "well done".
"We have to respect the will of the people. The people went to the polls, they decided, they voted for Frelimo, massively, they voted for Daniel Francisco Chapo, our president-elect. So we must all celebrate this clear and unequivocal manifestation that the people have given," he said.
