Almost half of state funding falls into Frelimo's accounts, according to Venâncio Mondlane

Quase metade dos financiamentos ao Estado caem nas contas da Frelimo, segundo Venâncio Mondlane

The independent candidate for President of the Republic, Venâncio Mondlane, said on Friday in Maputo that almost half of state funding is diverted to the accounts of the Central Committee of the Frelimo party.

"All the big projects that are financed for Mozambique, in terms of social, public investment and infrastructure, we know that 30 to 40% of that investment will fall exactly into the accounts of the [Frelimo] central committee," he said.

According to Mondlane, this is how the international community finances the ruling party.

"So it's an indirect way that they are financing the fraudulent party. They are financing a regime of fraud," he said.

The independent candidate criticized the fact that, when asked, the international community says it respects the sovereignty of the state.

To this, Venâncio Mondlane, who proclaimed himself victorious, including the Podemos party, left an express message.

"It's good that when the time comes for Mozambicans to resolve [electoral fraud issues] they also respect the sovereignty of the state," he warned.
