Government says executors of Mondlane statue can be held responsible

Governo diz que os executores da estátua de Mondlane podem ser responsabilizados

The government, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said today that the technical team that will evaluate the statue of Eduardo Mondlane will determine how long the evaluation will last, the costs for corrections and subsequent steps..

According to Minister Eldevina Materula, the same team, which will include national and foreign experts, "will also define whether, in the future, there will be accountability for those involved in designing the monument".

The statue of Eduardo Mondlane, which was inaugurated on September 25 as part of the celebrations for the Day of the Armed Forces of Defense of Mozambique (FADM), was made by Arte de Gema and finished in China.

The new statue of Eduardo Mondlane, erected at the beginning of the avenue with the same name, in the Alto-Maé neighborhood of Maputo, began to be mocked on social networks after its inauguration.
