The Minister of Culture and Tourism announced today, Thursday (03), that the government will set up a technical team to evaluate the statue of Eduardo Mondlane, which was inaugurated on September 25, as part of the celebrations for the Day of the Armed Defense Forces of Mozambique (FADM).
Speaking at a press conference, the government official, quoted by the Sunday newspaperHe acknowledged that the technical evaluation, which may include national and foreign professionals, will be carried out as a result of the criticism that arose in society after the inauguration of the project, which cost the state coffers 22 million meticais.
The new statue of Eduardo Mondlane, erected at the beginning of the avenue with the same name, in the Alto-Maé neighborhood of Maputo, began to be mocked on social networks after its inauguration.
Among the various opinions expressed on the different digital platforms, citizens demand that the statue be removed from that location, claiming that it doesn't reflect the real image of Eduardo Mondlane and, therefore, ask for the return of the old one, which, according to them, bore more resemblance.
