The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), in the district of Montepuez, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, stopped an imminent collision this Sunday (29) between supporters of presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, and members and sympathizers of the Frelimo party, in the middle of the local town hall.

According to a AIMThe incident occurred at around 12 noon local time, when a caravan of Venâncio Mondlane, supported by the PODEMOS party (Partido Povo Optimista para o Desenvolvimento de Moçambique), wanted to use a road in the city that gave access to the site of the election campaign rally of Frelimo's presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, which was scheduled for the same time.

"The police intervened promptly with their rapid intervention force, which peacefully created a barrier so that candidate Mondlane and his supporters would not have any contact with the Frelimo counterpart, who was on the other side of the Montepuez triangle traffic circle," says the same publication, pointing out that after about 30 minutes of exchanging pleasantries with Venâncio Mondlane's front group, an understanding was reached to avoid clashes and skirmishes.

Realizing that the situation could lead to clashes, Venâncio Mondlane ordered his caravan to retreat towards the Balama district, abandoning the center of the municipal town of Montepuez.

Even so, Mondlane's supporters and the PODEMOS party insisted that the caravan should continue towards the Frelimo rally.

To calm things down, Mondlane got out of his float and got into a small one, which immediately started the retreat march.

When they realized that Venâncio Mondlane was absent, the supporters surrendered and followed the convoy's vehicles, thus avoiding any possible skirmishes.
