The Mais Integridade Electoral Consortium argued yesterday in Maputo that the Attorney General's Office (PGR) should subpoena candidates from other political parties to respond to offensive mentions or messages.
PGR notifies Venâncio Mondlane for insulting PR and CNE in a song
According to the Executive Director of Misa Mozambique, Ernesto Nhanale, there is a lot of reliable data on "hate speech" in electoral campaigns that can help the PGR identify and punish those responsible.
"The information released this week by the electoral program already indicates several cases of disinformation and hate speech. Perhaps the PGR could also use this data, which is public, to see who the actors are who are involved in this and be able to act on all of them, not selectively."
The representative of the consortium said that there are cases of hate speech which, as well as involving Venâncio Mondlane, also involve candidates from other parties.
"We really hope that, in the next few days, the PGR will provide us with data on the situations in which it has called on others. We hope that Venâncio will be the first and that the other parties will also be called so that we can see that the PGR is engaged in this and will not be selective," he said.
