Unknown assailants set fire to MDM vehicle used in election campaigns

Desconhecidos incendeiam viatura do MDM utilizada em campanhas eleitorais

A vehicle belonging to the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM) used for activities related to the current election campaign was set on fire by unidentified individuals in the early hours of Wednesday morning (04) in the district of Búzi, Sofala province.

The alleged vandalization of the vehicle took place at around 2 a.m., so the MDM support team for its members in that district only found out about it after hearing cries for help.

According to STVOne of the MDM members noticed evidence of arson, as the car was parked near the residence where they are staying and it was possible to see the signs before the car burned down completely.

It was not possible to extinguish the fire before it spread due to the lack of effective means to do so. However, the case has already been reported to the authorities. The police confirm what happened and have already opened a report.

The MDM says this is political intolerance, as there are other cases, such as the amputation of the finger of one of its members in the district of Dondo, where another citizen was also the victim of attacks while they were pasting leaflets.
