A court order led to the seizure of 608 vehicles, most of them luxury, light and heavy vehicles, as well as the closure of 24 used vehicle sales parks in Maputo city, in which around 600,000 meticais were seized.
The work of the Mozambican authorities is part of the operations to combat organized and transnational crime called Stop Money Laundering (Stop BC).
In the city of Maputo, 30 car sales parks have been shut down and all activities in those that have been closed have been suspended.
It is suspected that some of these companies were opened with funds of illicit origin, involving foreign citizens, Pakistanis without any kind of migration record in Mozambique. Seventeen Pakistanis have been arrested and others are on the run.
In addition, data in the possession of the authorities indicates the use of the national financial system for money laundering, as well as tax fraud and smuggling of goods.
