The province of Luanda in Angola could have another administrative division, because the ruling MPLA party is considering dividing the area into two parts.
According to DW, the MPLA has already carried out a poll and, supposedly, the majority is in favor of the administrative division.
If this plan comes to fruition, the municipalities of Cacuaco, Viana, Icolo e Bengo and Quiçama will form a new province, the name of which is currently being studied.
According to the ruling party, the division of the province will make it possible to improve local governance and guarantee better living conditions for the inhabitants.
UNITA, the largest opposition party, also consulted civil society on the proposed political-administrative division. Speaking to DW, MP Olívio Nkilumbo said that citizens did not approve of the initiative.
According to the MP, the inhabitants of the areas to be divided claim that the historical and anthropological issues of the regions have not been taken into account in the proposal on the table.
