South Africa: Mozambican kidnapped by two police officers rescued in 24 hours

South African police action against organized crime resulted in the rescue, in about 24 hours, of a Mozambican citizen who had been kidnapped on Thursday in Gauteng province.

The police also managed to arrest two individuals, who, according to family sources quoted by the NewsThey are South African police officers from the Midrand highway patrol. They demanded the payment of two million rand for the release of the Mozambican.

The newspaper writes that the victim was identified as Muthisse and was kidnapped on his way to work, where he is a businessman in the transport sector.

In communication with the kidnappers, the family members claimed not to have the amount demanded and the kidnappers suggested selling a car to get the money. During the negotiations, the amount demanded was between 150,000 and 20,000 rand.

Meanwhile, in order to free the Mozambican, part of his family managed to raise around 220,000 rand.

The police officers, aged 31 and 32, were taken to court on Monday (12) for their first interrogation. They will face charges of kidnapping and extortion.
