Renamo, the largest opposition party in Mozambique, says it was surprised and displeased to hear about the visit of Frelimo's interim secretary-general to Portugal, having been received by the Portuguese statesman, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
In a statement, the political group expressed its displeasure and regrets the involvement of the President of Portugal in what it calls the Frelimo party's pre-campaign.
According to the Renamo note, the meeting, at a time of pre-election campaigning, can be interpreted as support from the Portuguese head of state in full office for the Frelimo party candidate, who is also the party's interim secretary-general.
