Frelimo presidential: There are 'comrades' at the service of personal agendas, according to SG

Presidenciais na Frelimo: Existem ‘camaradas’ ao serviço de agendas pessoais, segundo o SG

The Secretary General (SG) of Frelimo, Roque Silva, said on Wednesday in Matola that there are party members who are too interested in the internal elections to appoint the new party leader because they are fulfilling agendas of personal interest.

Speaking at the closing of the III ordinary session of the national council of the Mozambican Women's Organization, she warned party members to shy away from promises of financial gain and material goods put forward by those who want to distort Frelimo.

"I would therefore like to appeal to you to remain focused on observing Frelimo's principles. Avoid being manipulated with promises of financial or material gain by those who intend, in the service of internal elections, to fulfill their personal agendas," he said.

Roque Silva called on the 'comrades' to follow Frelimo's agenda during the internal elections so that the results reflect greater synergy within the party.

"I call on us all to make an effort to ensure that the results of the internal elections translate into the strengthening of unity and internal cohesion in our party. This is not a process to determine winners or losers, but rather a mechanism for consolidating and strengthening our party's internal democracy where, in the end, only Frelimo wins", he said, quoted by the Radio Mozambique.

Roque Silva's statements come after reports emerged this week that Samora Machel Júnior, the son of the first president of independent Mozambique, Samora Machel, is going to put forward his candidacy for the presidency of Frelimo. Read more....

On the subject, in an interview with the television channel STVFrelimo party spokeswoman Ludmila Magune said that the party was not yet officially aware of Samora Machel Júnior's claim.
