The Russian ambassador to Mozambique recently expressed Moscow's willingness to support Maputo in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado, should there be a request for intervention.
Quoted by ObserverAlexandre Surikov pointed out, however, that the current situation in the north of the country "is not dramatic".
On Thursday, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, assumed that the terrorism situation in Cabo Delgado is not the best, because the terrorists are on the move.
In the Russian ambassador's view, Mozambican troops, with the support of the SADC Military Mission and Rwandan soldiers, are making good progress on the ground, so the situation does not seem to require urgent intervention.
"If they need any specific help, we are always there for them," said Surikov, recalling the historical military relationship between Mozambique and Russia.
