The Mayor of the city of Quelimane, in Zambézia, Manuel de Araújo, welcomes the attitude of the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, in appointing Eduardo Namburete as Mozambique's ambassador to Algeria.
"I want to congratulate President Nyusi for being inclusive and appointing Mr. Eduardo Namburete as Mozambique's ambassador to Algeria. I'm not saying that this isn't a political game. It's a political trick to score some points," he said.
The mayor believes that this is nothing more than a political strategy, but calls for it to serve the defense of national interests.
"But even so, because I believe that national interests are above party interests. I give a positive vote to President Nyusi and Eduardo Namburete for accepting. But don't use it for political or partisan gain."
Last week, Filipe Nyusi appointed Eduardo Namburete, a prominent senior member of the Renamo party, to the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Mozambique to Algeria.
This is Filipe Nyusi's second appointment of a member of the opposition to a diplomatic career. In 2022, Raul Domingos, from the Party for Peace, Democracy and Development, was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Mozambique to the Holy See.
