Journalist and political commentator João Chamusse died at dawn on Thursday (14) in the Katembe Nsime neighborhood, in the Matutuine district of Maputo province.
The body of the Editorial Director of the newspaper Ponto por Ponto was found in the backyard of his house.
The owner of the newspaper, Esmeralda de Amaral, told Success TV who kept in touch with the deceased until around 6 p.m., when, as Editorial Director of the weekly, Chamusse postponed a regular meeting from Thursday to Friday.
"Then we had no further contact with him, and we were surprised this morning with this information," he said, adding that it was too early to say what caused his death.
According to reports on television, the journalist's body showed signs of alleged aggression. One of the signs was a brain-cranial fissure.
A fellow citizen of the neighborhood said that he saw the journalist at 3 a.m. and there were no cries for help.
"I can say that I 'live with him'. I saw him at three in the morning," he said, dismissing the hypothesis of a possible murder. "We don't know. They haven't confirmed it and we haven't seen anyone."
Information circulating in the media, including social networks, pointed to a possible execution as the cause of death.
The Police of the Republic of Mozambique, in Maputo province, confirmed the journalist's death, but there is no information on the cause of his death.
PRM spokesman Juarce Martins, quoted by Radio MozambiqueHe said that a PRM team was at the scene to investigate the death.
