Burkina Faso has abandoned French as the country's official language and has consecrated the national languages as official languages.
The Council of Ministers' report specifies that the draft law revising the constitution "is part of the implementation of one of the main missions of the transition, which is to initiate political, administrative and institutional reforms to strengthen the culture of democracy and consolidate the rule of law".
Among the "major innovations" of this new text is "the establishment of national languages as official languages instead of French, which will become the working language," said Africanews.
The measure, which will also have to be voted on in the Transitional Legislative Assembly, also provides for "the establishment of traditional and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms".
