The District Electoral Commission (CDE) of the city of Matola has just announced the intermediate results of the VI municipal elections in the city, which indicate that the Frelimo party won.
According to the CDE, the Frelimo party won 207,269 votes, corresponding to 57.23, Renamo 130,693 votes (36,08%) and the MDM 13,204 votes (3,65%).
"It should be noted that the district election commission in the city of Matola is currently made up of 14 members, all of whom have signed the notice," said the CDE representative after the results were announced.
The city of Matola registered 646,147 voters (100%), with 421,138 going to vote (65.18%), and 224,999 abstentions (34.82%). In the municipality, 895 polling stations were set up, with 3,120 blank votes (0.74% in relation to the total number of voters) and 18,504 invalid votes (4,39%). It validated 399,514 (94,87%). Claimed, protested and counter-protested votes (14), which validated 362,181 votes (100%).
In the city of Matola, the Frelimo candidate, former governor of Maputo province Júlio Parruque, had as his main opponent the deputy of the Assembly of the Republic for the Renamo party, António Muchanga. In the previous elections Muchanga lost to his Frelimo opponent, Calisto Cossa, whose municipal management has been criticized in the public sphere.
It should be remembered that the validation of the results takes place 15 days after the elections, at the Constitutional Council.
