The management of the US technology company announced on Wednesday that Mozambique is negotiating its inclusion in the first edition of a Microsoft digital acceleration program..
The announcement came after a meeting in New York with the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.
Speaking to journalists, the director of Microsoft's Digital Development Program, André Aragão Azevedo, said that this "is the first year of the program, it's a launch year". "We're trying to identify which countries are going to move forward with us. Mozambique, at the moment, is positioned as one of the countries at the forefront in terms of moving forward with the program," he said.
The meeting with the Mozambican head of state, according to the head of the US technology company, was aimed at "working together with the government, together with the country", to promote "this acceleration of digitalization in Mozambique and digital opportunities for the Mozambican population".
"At Microsoft we have created a new program called the digital development program. The digital development program actually aims to support countries in accelerating digitalization," added André Aragão Azevedo, quoted by Lusa.
"It brings a series of benefits, a series of advantages for developing countries, for digitization systems and, therefore, we are currently in the process of identifying the first countries we are going to work with, the five countries we are going to work with," he said, acknowledging Mozambique's "enormous desire" to enter this program.
"Mr. President has shown this intention and this priority to invest in this issue of digital transformation. And so it was at his request that we actually came to talk and so it is proactively the President who is driving this agenda forward," concluded the source.
