Sarita Henriksen lança livro sobre educação e políticas linguísticas em Moçambique

The latest book by academic Sarita Monjane Henriksen, entitled "Language and Education in Mozambique: Subsidies for a Language Policy Oriented towards Global Citizenship", was launched on Tuesday (08) at the BCI auditorium in Maputo. With just over 200 pages, the book brings to light the problem of multilingual societies, language policies, the local, national, regional and global context.

At a ceremony attended by researchers, students, BCI employees and guests, the BCI's Deputy Central Director for Organization and Quality, Xavier Ubisse, began by mentioning the bank's social responsibility program, which focuses on supporting books, including scientific works such as this one. He stressed the relevance of the issues under analysis, saying he was convinced that in this work "linguists, sociolinguists, pedagogues, educational scientists and the academic community in general will find a great source of knowledge, essential for Mozambique's development".

As editorial coordinator of Gala-Gala Edições, which published the book, writer Pedro Pereira Lopes praised the author's important work. "We tried to make a perfect edition. We're proud to be publishing the work of a renowned academic," he said.

The author expressed her gratitude to the BCI and all those who contributed to the book's publication. She mentioned, among others, the academics Feliciano Chimbutana, who prefaced the book, and Francisco Noa, whose role was decisive. He went on to mention, among the various themes that the book addresses, "the choice of Portuguese as the official language in Mozambique; the tendencies towards extensive use of local languages in the country; and the paradigms of linguistic human rights". He also revealed that the book is the culmination of a dream begun in 2010, resulting from the transformation and translation of his doctoral thesis.

In addition to the presentation of the book by professors Chimbutana and Aissa Mithá, the event featured cultural moments by poet Sangare Okapi and musician Roberto Isaías.
