STAE extends the opening hours of voter registration offices

This Tuesday, the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) decided to extend the opening hours of voter registration offices in Mozambique by another two hours, making them open between 7am and 5pm.

"The aim of extending the operation of the voter registration brigades by two hours is to allow as many potential voters as possible to register," reads a note to which MZNews had access today.

With the decision, the brigades will no longer work eight hours a day but 10 hours a day.

This week, the political parties, Resistência Nacional Moçambicana (Renamo) and Movimento Democrático de Moçambique (MDM) presented their findings of irregularities in the census process. Among the proposals for their resolution was the extension of the period of operation of the census offices put forward by the MDMIt should be for a few more days or weeks.

Before this process began, the two and only opposition parties with parliamentary seats announced a coalition to share information with each other about voter registration.
