SERNIC denies increase in kidnapping of women and children in Maputo

The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has not confirmed the occurrence of cases of abduction of women and children in the city and province of Maputo in recent days.

The position comes in reaction to a growing wave of complaints, mainly via social networks.

The alarm was sounded a long time ago and reports of child abductions have taken shape on social media in recent days, prompting the national criminal investigation service in Maputo city, through its spokesperson, to make a statement.

"SERNIC has been following these events with a great deal of attention and concern, so much so that the National Criminal Investigation Service does not confirm the occurrence of these events in Maputo city or Maputo province, or in other regions of the country, since we have no record or report of any case by a family member," said Hilario Lole, SERNIC's spokesman in Maputo city.

In the meantime, however, Hilario Lole is appealing to Mozambican society.
