Abdul Bashir didn't warn his wife about staying in the burning house. He came to Portugal two years later under a government agreement.
Abdul Bashir may have been involved in the death of his wife, the mother of his three children, who died in a fire in Greece. The hypothesis is still being investigated by the Greek authorities, who now admit that he may be a serial killer.
On Tuesday, the Afghan refugee killed two women at the Ismaili Center in Lisbon, in what could be a crime of passion, although it is not known if he had done it before.
According to Correio da Manhã, "the hypothesis is being investigated by the authorities in that country, who now admit that a serial killer may be involved".
The Afghan's wife died in a fire in 2019 and "it was the suspect who saved their three young children - the eldest was six at the time. He never alerted them to his wife's presence in the house and the firefighters only came across the body when they managed to extinguish the flames," the newspaper reveals.
Abdul Bashir, despite the ongoing investigation, is coming to Portugal in 2021, under an agreement between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Greek Ministry of Migration. He was granted refugee status, but the refugee wanted Farana's help to get Portuguese documents. What's more, he wanted the Muslim woman to join him and help him raise his children, says the newspaper.
The man is already in pre-trial detention and is not due to be heard by a judge for another two weeks. "In the order delivered to the judge, the Public Prosecutor's Office says that terrorism may have been a motive for the attack at the Ismaili Center," reads the news report.
