Flooding affects about 30 hectares of agricultural fields in Gaza

Around 30 hectares of agricultural fields with maize are flooded in the district of Chibuto, in Gaza province, due to flooding in the Limpopo River. The situation is due to the discharges being made at the Massingir dam and Nearly 19,000 people may be affected by the floods.

The situation is caused by the discharges being made by the Massingir Dam, in the district of the same name. Corn crops are flooded. "It destroyed the maize crop, another was still developing, another had not yet reached the ripening stage, the men tried to collect this production, which they could use for other types of consumption, but, for consumption, naturally they won't be able to use it," said Manuel Tivane, Chibuto's district director of infrastructures, quoted by the newspaper O País.

To prevent the worst from happening, the authorities plan to support 22 producers. "After the floods have passed, we will need around 750 kg of maize seed to be able to support the producers who have been affected," said Manuel Tivane.

The Chibuto district expects more than 19,000 families to be affected by the floods. "We always take steps to get these people to safety."

The most affected areas were the village of Eduardo Mondlane and Mulandine.

The rains that fell in the district of Chibuto had a significant contribution to the flooding and impact on access roads.

Another problem, mentioned by the Chibuto authorities, is the crossing of the Nhagule lagoon, since the lagoon has no water that acts as an alternative route and connects the upper Tsagano area and the upper Changanine administrative post, so this route is currently impassable because of the water there.

The director of infrastructure in Chibuto reports that the alert levels for the Muhabe area have dropped from 6 meters to 2.99, which means that the levels are now getting lower and lower.
