The Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, said yesterday that the process of setting up the Mozambique Railway and Port Institute (IFEPOM) entails a number of challenges typical of a new institution.
In this context, he recommended to the president, Carlos Fernando Bambo Nhangou, who had just been sworn in, that he immediately start designing the regulatory instruments that are currently lacking, while actively participating in mobilizing the technical staff and setting up the bodies needed for the institution to function fully.
"The person in office, in coordination with other stakeholders, must establish mechanisms to ensure that the rail-port corridors can be a Development Hub, taking into account the role of rail-port infrastructures at national level and in regional logistics," said Adriano Maleiane.
In carrying out these and other tasks, Maleiane continued, the person in office will have to be guided by results-oriented management, prioritizing teamwork, as well as ensuring good management of public affairs.
The Prime Minister explained that it was in view of the current dynamics of the country's social and economic development process and with a view to ensuring greater regulation, efficiency and specialization that the government restructured the National Land Transport Institute (INATTER), giving rise to the creation of the Road Transport Institute (INATRO) and the Mozambique Rail and Port Institute (IFEPOM).
"The creation of the Mozambique Railway and Port Institute aims to provide the country with a regulatory institution that defines the rules for carrying out railway and port activities, as well as monitoring compliance with technical standards and railway and port safety," said Adriano Maleiane.
